When I was little, my favorite toy was my Baby Kermit! We were inseparable. Naturally, this developed a frog obsession that lasted till at least my early 20s. Fast forward years later and I’m living in New Jersey. My mom came to visit me and with her, she brought an elder Kermit. She bought him at Christmas time, so he has a winter scarf. She knew she was coming to visit soon, so Instead of shipping him, she brought him on the plane with her. (You know, so he had a more comfortable travel experience.) He rode around with me in the back seat of my car for the next several years, switching to the next when I ended/started a new lease.
When I started my journey learning all about newborn photograph, I noticed something about Kermit. He had arms, legs, and was about the size of a newborn baby…and I needed something to practice those cute curly poses with. He spent most of 2019 being wrapped, posed, and hanging out on the back of my couch.
Then, 2020 came. Everything shut down with a worldwide pandemic, including all photography sessions. Unsure about what was happening around the world, and what would happen with my new small business, I needed something to keep me distracted. One day while sitting in my apartment, trying to ignore the news, I noticed something about Kermit again… He has arms, and legs, and is about the size of a newborn baby… I had borrowed my mother-in-law’s sewing machine “just in case I needed it” a few weeks earlier. I had an idea. I can dress Kermit!
I went through my closet and pulled out some tops I never wear (some even with tags, you know how it is) and started planning. Since all I could do was sit at home, I taught myself how to sew newborn outfits and called it my Corona Creative line. And then I tried them on Kermit. And then took pictures to send to my mom in Florida!
Kermit still sits on the back of the couch, waiting for my next clothing design. I think his days of riding in the backseat of the car are over.
